A Picture is Worth One Thousand Words!

Photo on an iphoneA picture is worth a thousand words! Perhaps that is why photo sharing has become so popular in our techno world of limited characters. One picture can say what you couldn’t fit into 140 letters or less. That is why Instagram is hugely successful. This iPhone app helps people easily share their photos in social media and makes them searchable. 150 million photos have been uploaded to the iPhone app in the 9 months since it was launched. 1.3 million photos are uploaded each day — that’s 15 photos per second.

Its 7 million users are proof that Instagram is photographer friendly but the real draw appears to be the filters you can use to give your photos that extra zazz. 80% of the photos uploaded are “filtered.”

So what does this mean for other popular media platforms that have photo sharing options? Will they have to up the ante to compete? In this blog post Julie D. Andrews says Facebook “appears hungry for a piece of the action.” She cites a New York Times article in which two anonymous Facebook engineers claim they may be adding photo filters to the site’s photo sharing options. If users are most concerned with “image quality, ease of loading photos and quality of display,” as Andrews suggests, then can Facebook really compete by just adding a few filters?

It's very calm over here, why not leave a comment?
